Transformers One Review

THE FILM

Transformers One is a film based on the Hasbro Transformers toyline. This film focuses on the origin story of the Transformers, starring Orion Pax/Optimus Prime (Chris Hemsworth), D-16/Megatron (Brian Tyree Henry), Elita-One (Scarlett Johansson), and B127/Bumblebee (Keegan-Michael Key).

The film's main character is Orion Pax, a cogless miner who wishes he could do more. His friend, D-16, who always keeps task on being a hard worker. They both would later meet Elita-One and B127 to go outside of Iacon city, and to find the Matrix of Leadership, an ancient artifact held by the 13 Primes, who were once ancient gods of Cybertron, who perished in the hands of the Quintessons.

When they found the cave where the Primes were ambushed in, they found out that one of the Primes, Alpha Trion, was still alive. He told them that the matrix had vanished, and that Iacon's leader Sentinel Prime, alongside his second in command Airachnid, caused the Quintesson ambush that killed the other primes. It would also be revealed that Sentinel made the new generation of transformers cogless to pay of the Quintesson debts. This would make D-16 mad. Alpha Trion gave Orion the evidence and the rest of the crew Transformation Cogs, before he would also be ambushed by Sentinel's army. Unfortunately, he would be killed by Sentinel himself later on.

Orion and his crew are now tasked to spread the news of Sentinel's lies and betrayal to the public, in hopes to bring peace to the planet. But unfortunately, D-16 had other plans as he wanted to murder Sentinel after he lied to them for many years. They would later meet the Cybertronian High Guard, a group of soldiers who once served for the primes before they were killed. They were now lead by Starscream, with his other two mates Shockwave and Soundwave, and went into hiding as they knew Sentinel was a traitor. They were soon ambushed by Sentinel, taking in D-16, Starscream, B127, and half of the High Guard as prisoners back at Iacon.

Orion and Elita divised a plan with Soundwave and Shockwave along with the rest of the High Guard to stop Sentinel, hijacking a train back to Iacon. Meanwhile, back at Iacon, Sentinel was planning to execute the prisoners. But before that, the train Orion and Elita hijacked crashed into the tower Sentinel was in. This gave the prisoners enough time to fight back and rebel. Orion focused on broadcasting the evidence, while D-16 had Sentinel to himself. Even when they had broadcasted the evidence, D-16 still planned on killing Sentinel. But, before he could kill him, he accidentally shot Orion, killing him instead, falling into the center of Cybertron.

After Orion was killed, D-16 still killed Sentinel, now deeming himself as Megatron, with the High Guard cheering, now followers of Megatron. Fortunately, as Orion was falling into the center of Cybertron, he would be deemed worthy of the Matrix, now being called Optimus Prime. Both Optimus and Megatron clashed with eachother, with Megatron losing. Optimus would later banish Megatron from Iacon with the rest of the High Guard.

MY REVIEW

Now for my review. Why do i like this film? I'm a nerd, so most of my points would be biased.

This film is one of the best Transformers film to ever come out since the 1986 movie. The character designs are great, the cinematography is great, the sounds are great, and the score is great. Every character in this film i already know of. Apart from Optimus, Bumblebee, Megatron, and Elita, some classic Transformers characters would be seen as background characters. This would include Jazz, Ironhide, Ratchet, Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, Arcee, Hound, Prowl, Brawn, and so on. On the Iacon 5000 scoreboard, we would also see more obscurer characters, including Blurr, Windblade, Cliffjumper, Dragstrip, Powerglide, Swindle, Swerve, Tailgate, Firelight, Afterburner, Jetstorm, and Mirage.

This film had me on the edge of my seat everytime, and i'd get why the person i was watching it with would feel concerned. Every moment felt like it mattered, every character felt so insane to see. In fact, some of the characters mentioned hadnt been in a film in the past 40 years or had been in a film ever! Seeing this movie was a dream come true to Transformers fans. The music is tense in every single scene, making you really wonder what will happen next. The characters are so, SO interesting. Even the background characters, having really good character designs. Speaking of the character designs, i've never seen any other transformers designs done so unique the same way Transformers One had done them. It feels like such a refreshing, new, and delicious take on the designs. Some scenes also have alot of cool details, e.g the Optimus and Megatron fight. Every fighting move they had acted was really well-animated.  In general, the fight choreography done in that scene felt so real and intense. However, there was one slight problem: B127/Bumblebee. Bee was the worst part of the film. Every scene he's in, he always felt really annoying. His jokes do seem funny, but not when its repeated more than twice. Though, overall, it doesnt really bring the film down any lower. This film is fantastic in its own ways, and its own rights.

Overall, this film is a tremendous 9.5/10. Please see it for yourself if you want to get into transformers, as this is a great film to introduce yourself to the franchise.
