TWISTERS (2024)
Twisters is an American disaster movie directed by Lee Isaac Chung. He is best known for the movie Minari, a personal drama that gained lots of praise. This film acts a standalone sequel to the 1996 classic Twister. With Twisters, Lee Isaac Chung takes a step into a large-scale action and high intensity spectacle.
The story follows by Kate Cooper, played by Daisy Edgar-Jones, a former chaser haunted by a tragedy. She is pulled back into a tornado alley after years of avoiding the storms. There she meets Tyler Owens, a reckless but charismatic storm chaser played by Glen Powell. Alongside with a team of new chasers, she faces deadly tornadoes that could potentially threaten small towns. The plot mixes survival, teamwork, and challenges.
The movie is thrilling and full of action. Daisy Edgar-Jones gives a strong performance, making her character seem relatable to most viewers. Glen Powell adds charm and energy, keeping the story fun. The storms themselves are the real stuff, creating suspense in every chase. But asides from being a huge thriller, the story feels too predictable at times. Some characters outside the main leads are underdeveloped. The movie focuses more on spectacle than deep storytelling. For viewers hoping for complex drama, it may feel light.
Overall, Twisters succeeds as an exciting summer disaster movie. It offers non-stop storm action and moments of human connection. While not as emotional as Chung’s past work, it shows his range as a director. Fans of action and disaster films will enjoy the ride.
The film delivers intense storm sequences with realistic CGI. Tornado scenes look powerful and frighteningly massive, filling the screen with lots of energy. The sound design adds to the chaos, making each storm feel alive. Wide shots of the landscape balance the disaster with a sense of scale.
